Hygene protects!
With your library card you can borrow books and other media, as well as using databases and e-media. You can also use all the accessible media and facilities in the library itself.

You can join at any of our libraries or online.
Are you at least 19 and don't have a user number yet? Then you can also join online. When you register online the yearly membership fee can be paid by credit card or Giropay.
You will immediately receive a user number which enables you to take advantage of all the online services. If you also wish to borrow books and media from our libraries, a membership card will be issued to you at the library.

Membership fees which are due can also be paid online. After logging in you will see the relevant information in your user account.
System requirements
For the use of Paypage you require Firefox from Version 3.6 or Internet Explorer from Version 7. In order to use all the functionalities of Paypage it is necessary for JavaScript to be activated. For the use of Paypage on mobile devices, it is advisable to use the standard browser of the individual operating system.
You should bring your ID card or another official identity document with a photo, together with a certificate of registration. Anyone below the age of 18 requires the signature and a supporting document from a parent or Guardian.
- For children and young people to the end of their 19th year: free of charge.
- For adults: € 20.00 per year*
- DUO (partner) membership: € 30.00 per year*
- Special rate: € 10.00 per year - borrowing 5 Media at the same time*
- Taster rate: € 5.00 per one month
*50% reduction on presentation of a Leipzig pass.
The library card is valid for a maximum of 12 months.
We can extend it for another 12 months after the verification of your address and the payment of your overdue fees.
Children and young people up to the age of 19 can borrow 20 items.
Those over 19 can borrow 40 items with one card. Holders of a Duo card (possible from age 18) can borrow up to 50 items.
- 4 weeks: books, study materials, sheet music, games, map, discs, games for the computer and console
- 1 week: magazines
Yes, an item can be renewed three times, unless the library has a reason for rejecting the renewal (e.g. the item has been reserved, payment of fees is overdue or the membership card has expired).
You can renew an item via your account or in person at the library.
Overdue fees
- Adults: € 0.40 per item per day
- For children and young people to the end of their 19th year: € 0.20 per item per day
- There is no charge for e-media
If the deadline for return is exceeded, a reminder is sent at extra cost. The fact that a reminder is not received does not remove the obligation to pay overdue or reminder charges.
TIP: if you provide your email address you will receive a reminder of deadlines for returning media by email.
You can reserve items which are out via our catalogue. If you wish to order an available item from a library in a different part of the city, you can do this at your local library. To order or reserve an item costs € 1. You will be notified by post (+ postage) or email that the requested item is available.
Reserved items are held available for collection for 10 days.
If you lose your membership card you should have it blocked as quickly as possible: phone: 0341 123-5341.
A replacement card for adults costs € 5.00 and for children and young people aged over 19 € 2.50.
In this case it has to be replaced. For this purpose please contact the staff of the library.
The receipt enables you to prove that you have returned borrowed items.
Before you borrow an item please check its condition and completeness, and report any visible damage to the library staff.
If you wish to object to a payment you will need to produce your receipt.
Simply click on the search box at the top right of our website and enter your search term. You will automatically be transferred to the list of hits in the catalogue.
A click on the "Login" button at top right in the catalogue will take you to your account page with the self-service functions.
