Reading and learning
Junior Book Summer and Saxony's Book Summer
6 weeks of summer holidays! 6 weeks of free time, during which children and young people can register for these holiday reading projects. The Junior Book Summer is organised by the Leipziger Städtische Bibliotheken and is aimed at children in Classes 1 to 4. Saxony's Book Summer during the school holidays covers the entire state and provides exciting reading materials for children from Class 5. Every participant receives a club ID. The aim is to read three books during the holidays. All successful participants receive a certificate at the great final party!
Reading aloud competition
The countrywide competition for Class 6 pupils aims at generating enthusiasm about reading, creative engagement with literature, and enjoyment of reading aloud. In competitions from the individual school level to the federal state finals participants can display their skills in reading aloud. The Leipziger Städtische Bibliotheken organise the competition at the city and regional level on an annual basis.
Early reading - three milestones towards successful reading. A project aimed at the very youngest, promoting language skills and reading. Parents will receive three early-reading sets with tips about reading aloud for their one-year-old, three-year-old and six-year-old kids. The early-reading set for three-year-olds will be available in the libraries from November.

The Leipziger Youth Literature Jury
The Leipziger Youth Literature Jury was set up in 2006. It currently consists of 24 young people aged between 14 and 19 from various schools in Leipzig. At the Leipzig Book Fair the jury every year announces its six favourites, which in the course of the year will then be presented in our libraries by prominent figures from the worlds of business, politics and culture, or by the jurors themselves. The Leipziger Youth Literature Jury is supported by the Leipziger Städtische Bibliotheken and the JOJO junior culture workshop.
Spiral curriculum - library services for schools, day nurseries daycare centres
The Leipziger Städtische Bibliotheken offer a wide and varied range of programmes for day nurseries. These materials can be borrowed free of charge on special terms with a class set membership card.
